Title

Pearl Elliott

Subject

Pearl Elliott: Female Gangster

Description

Rather than an alcohol or drug dealer as many other prominent gangsters were, Pearl Elliott was a madame. She owned and ran a successful brothel in Indiana. This brothel was even protected by police and if ever there was trouble inside of the brothel, someone would shine a flashlight out the window and a police officer would help. This establishment was also known for serving as a hideout for another prominent gangster, Harry Pierpont and his crew. She also served as treasurer for another prominent gangster, John Dillinger. Her connection to Dillinger put her on the 1933 Public Enemies list. Though police had orders to "shoot to kill," Pearl's actual cause of death was cancer.
